The End of an Era

WOW, where do I even begin?

Our studio has officially moved to its new location at Unit 14B-D, Britannia Mills, Britannia Road, Slaithwaite, Huddersfield, HD7 5HE.

While we’re not far from our previous space—just a 23-minute drive—this move does create challenges for some students and Instructors, especially those who don’t drive or already travel a long distance to reach us, but from the opposite direction.

Unfortunately, for some, our new location is just a bit too far.

It truly feels like the end of an era. While I’m not closing my studio, moving it still feels like closing a chapter.

After traveling to Halifax and Sowerby Bridge for two and a half years, it feels surreal to be back on my doorstep—a mere 5-minute walk to my new studio.

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone: my instructors, my amazing team, my incredible students, and my clients. Thank you all. Without you, the WILD community wouldn’t be what it is today, and for that, I am deeply grateful. Your support has enabled me to live my dreams, and I am so thankful.

WILD began humbly in my spare bedroom at Slaithwaite in 2009. I put up a pole and placed a handwritten sign in the local newsagents. This was in the same village where our new premises now stands.

After taking a break from pole fitness to have my children and explore different career paths, I found myself back where I started—this time teaching from my living room in Slaithwaite in 2022.

It quickly became apparent that my dogs weren’t the best hosts, and having people in my home wasn’t sustainable. I began hiring an amazing private gym in Slaithwaite, where my one-to-one, two-to-one, and even three-to-one classes quickly filled up.

The demand for bigger classes and a larger space led me to find the perfect location in Halifax in the summer of 2022. The studio was fabulous—right in the heart of Halifax town, with great ceiling height and two studio spaces!

But it wasn’t meant to be. Just two weeks before I was due to get the keys, I was informed the studio had flooded and was no longer available.

Thankfully, Kate’s Classes in Sowerby Bridge came to the rescue, offering to sublet their pole room to me. Our group classes started there, and we stayed for almost a year before finding a different Halifax town center location that gave us more flexibility in our timetable and the ability to add lot’s of different options for classes including Bungee, Aerial Hoop, Kids aerial, Hammock, Aerial Yoga and more. It became our home, even though it was never intended to be permanent.

I anticipated our next move would also be within Halifax. But one space after another fell through—whether due to delays in renovations or spaces not meeting our requirements for ceiling height, size, or affordability.

Then, a lovely friend connected me with someone who had spaces available to let back in Slaithwaite.

The moment I saw the location, I knew it was the one. Still, it was an emotional decision. At one point, I even pulled out and tried again to find a closer space in Halifax, but nothing was suitable.

I had to dig deep and ask myself: Why am I doing this?

The answer became clear. A memory surfaced of a conversation I’d had with my dance teacher at 18, a conversation about opening my dance school in the local village. It reminded me of that saying: Things don’t always make sense looking forward, but the dots always connect looking backward.

Being within walking distance of my children’s school, downsizing to one family car—there are so many reasons why this move aligns perfectly with my personal circumstances.

And my heart… my heart is here in Slaithwaite. I feel so pleased, excited, scared, thrilled, nervous, and every emotion in between.

To the students who won’t be joining us: I will truly miss you. Keep pointing your toes!

To our new students: I can’t wait to meet you, support your goals, and make fitness fun and exciting for you!

To those coming with me: Thank you. Here’s to building a new WILD community together.

Yesterday on my last day in the Halifax studio a couple of new students said to me “you make us feel so welcome and at home and we’ve only just started today, you make us feel at ease. We are really excited to come to your new studio” I always aim to be myself, so that you can all be yourselves too. I hope to see you in the studio even if it’s just now and then.

Here’s to the end of an era, and the start of something more fabulous than I ever thought possible, Becky x
